The Infinity Skin Care Consultation

When you look in the mirror and see fine lines or brown spots that didn't used to be there, pores that seem larger than before and crow's feet where there once was smooth skin you may wonder, Now what?
The choices in skin care can be overwhelming, and it may be difficult for you to determine what procedures and products will really work for your individual skin type and age. That's where Infinity's personalized skin care consultation comes in.
Skin care consultations can be focused or general and may take anywhere from twenty minutes to about an hour. There is an initial cost of $50 for the consult, a fee that can later be applied to either a treatment of $200 or more, or a product purchase of $300 or more. All skin care consults are done with one of our physicians or registered nurses. This is a personalized appointment where you are able to address your individual skin care needs and concerns. Your provider can guide you with detailed treatment and product recommendations for your specific needs. At the time of your consult, a Visia image of your face may be taken and this will assess the condition of your skin, both on the surface and below! The staff at Infinity can best help you consider your treatment options and make decisions when we discuss the following:
- What are your specific skin care concerns?
- Are there any special events or dates by which you would like to see the change in your skin?
- How much are you interested in spending?
- Are you primarily interested in daily skin care recommendations or are you also interested in procedures for either maintenance or rejuvenation of your skin?

Infinity clients are not required to have a skin care consultation, but are encouraged to schedule one. Everyone can benefit from the knowledge that our staff has to offer!
Note: a separate Visia-only consult is $25. Call our office today to schedule your appointment at 319-337-5355.
Skin Care for the Ages by Kimberly Schulz, MD

Patients often ask what procedures are best at various ages. While there are significant differences between individual patients, there are definitely trends to consider for each of these all important age milestones.
In Your Teens & 20s: The key word is PROTECTION
Acne care and treatment, sunscreen and proper cleansing. A Clarisonic MD brush will do wonders to help cleanse and exfoliate your skin.
In Your 30s...The key word is PREVENTION
Sun avoidance, sunscreen, antioxidants and Botox! Botox you ask? Absolutely! Wrinkles and creases form from repeated facial expression such as scowling and smiling. Botox prevents the wrinkles from forming. Chemical peels or microdermabrasion increase exfoliation which helps to prevent wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation and brown spots. These should be done regularly at all ages to prevent and maintain.
In Your 40s...The key word is MAINTENANCE
In addition to the preventative steps above, those nearing or over 40 should consider injection of fillers to maintain their facial fullness and contours, especially in the cheeks, smile lines, lip borders and marionette lines. By using Botox and fillers, 40 something's can maintain the full, wrinkle free appearance of their youth without surgery and no one will be the wiser since these procedures can be performed with small amounts of filler and no downtime. 40 something's also are good candidates for Thermage to maintain skin firmness and tautness anywhere on the body. Depending on the individual, IPL to remove age spots and or facial blood vessels should be considered now. At forty, Fraxel resurfacing laser can be performed to freshen the complexion and maintain a smooth, spot free, wrinkle free complexion. While Fraxel laser is typically done in a series of four or more monthly treatments, those patients who just want to maintain their complexion with smooth, youthful skin often opt to have sporadic treatments once or twice a year as a maintenance program.
In Your 50s and Over...The key word is REJUVENATION
For those patients who have not prevented or maintained in their 30's and 40's, it's time for rejuvenation! Here is where multiple procedures add up to a big bang! This includes a little Botox, larger volumes of filler (known as VolumaLift), a series of IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments for any facial vessels, Thermage for skin laxity and Fraxel for skin resurfacing. For those who haven't prevented or maintained, Fraxel can undo many skin concerns such as wrinkles, brown spots, melasma, and rough texture including precancers known as actinic keratoses! (Fraxel is now FDA approved specifically for actinic keratoses although it is not covered by insurance for this purpose).
